• When do UPS surcharges apply?
1. Additional handling:
UPS charges a surcharge if certain parcels require additional handling:
Goods in metal or wooden packaging
Items in cylindrical containers, such as barrels, buckets, canisters or tyres that are not fully enclosed in corrugated cardboard packaging
Packages with a length exceeding 100 cm or packages whose second longest side exceeds 76 cm
Any parcel with an actual weight exceeding 25 kg (not volumetric weight)
Any package in a shipment whose average weight exceeds 25 kg and whose exact weight is not indicated on the shipping documents or cannot be processed through the UPS automated package system
UPS reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to impose a surcharge for any package that UPS determines requires additional handling. If a large package surcharge has already been applied, the additional handling surcharge will not apply.
2. Surcharge for large parcels
A parcel is considered a “large parcel” if the total dimension exceeds 300cm in length plus girth [girth = (2 x width) + (2 x height)], but is less than the maximum dimension of 400cm. Large parcels are subject to a chargeable minimum weight of 40kg.
3. Oversize surcharge
Parcels weighing more than 70kg, measuring more than 270cm in length or more than 400cm in length and circumference [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] will not be accepted for dispatch. Nevertheless, shipments found in the UPS parcel system will be charged with an oversize surcharge. A parcel with a combined length and circumference exceeding 400cm will therefore be subject to a “Large Parcel Surcharge” and an “Oversize Surcharge”.
4. Collection and delivery in outlying areas and in areas that are difficult to access
Please refer to UPS to find out whether a surcharge is levied for such areas. In principle, the price should be displayed when you create the dispatch note or in the price calculator.
5. Other surcharges
Delivery to or collection from private addresses
